PATTATHU YAANAI

Pattathu Yaanai stars Vishaal and Action King Arjun's daughter Aishwarya in the lead and not to forget the comedy Super Star Santhanam playing the biggest part of the movie too. Produced by global infotainment Michael Rayappan, Pattathu Yaanai is directed by Boopathy Pandian. The music department is taken care by Thaman and camera by Vaithy.

The movie had its own brand image due to the previous combo of Vishaal and Boopathy Pandian's Malaikottai being a hit and thus audience flocked the theaters. A very frail storyline where there is little love, some action, pretty much sentiments and a lot of comedy.

Vishaal starts off as a cook working under his boss Santhanam and they decide to start a new business in Trichy so they shift places. There is where Vishaal meets Aishwarya, falls in love, dares against a gangster's son and the so called story begins when Vishal him bashes up while rescuing Aishwarya from his strong hold. A slimy flash back begins when Aishwarya enquires about the guts of Vishaal who was a mere common man staying away from troubles. As usual, the flash back says that Vishaal already had a mishap with the villains and now got a chance for him to take revenge. The movie ends with a simple happy ending.

Vishaal has tried his best to carry the movie on his shoulders with the assistance of Santhanam who is in great form and almost saves the movie. No wonder why the banners around the city portrayed bigger images of Santhanam than that of Vishal. His one liners are still with the current trend and looks like he is unstoppable atleast for another couple of years.

To talk about the debutant belle Aishwarya, Action King's daughter, no way would she ever be called the "Action Princess". Needs to pull up her socks in terms of
acting and is expressionless mostly. Other supporting actors like RJ Jagan, Mayilsami and others did no good to the movie.

Songs were pretty bad, nothing much about cinematography except for the action sequences which was watchable and a "not-bad" editing.

Boopathy Pandian has kept up his consistency by not providing too much of sophistication in the script which he has been following from Devathyai Kanden through Thiruvilayadal Arambam till Pattathu Yaanai. The major chunk of the movie lies in with the comedy track and Vishaal's action sequences yet poor execution makes you restless.

Overall a big miss for both Boopathy Pandian and Vishaal, better luck next time. On the other hand, Santhanam shall add a feather to his hat.

Bottomline: Pattathu "Yaanai" (Elephant) only in the name, in reality a mere poonai (Cat).
Verdict: Flop
Special Message: Vishal in his worst career form since Avan ivan, Vedi, Samar and now Pattathu Yaanai, has almost lost his stardom and needs to be choosy on his scripts.
